Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa (BBBSIA) is looking for the next class of Bigs to address the need for mentors in our community.
In collaboration with the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative, BBBSIA is launching The Big Draft, an annual volunteer recruitment campaign to encourage more volunteers to become mentors (“Bigs”). The campaign is inspired by the NFL Draft -- as the NFL drafts its next class of players, BBBSIA will draft its next class of “Bigs” in Central Iowa, with a goal of recruiting 60 Bigs in 60 days.
Today, one in three youth in America are growing up without a sustained, positive adult mentor in their lives. The gap between mentorship and youth who need it most continues to widen due to perceived barriers of the time and expertise needed to become a mentor.
The need for youth mentorship is critical in Central Iowa. Through The Big Draft, BBBSIA is shifting perceptions of mentorship and redefining the everyday moments that can make a big impact on the lives of young people.
On March 9th, BBBSIA kicks off The Big Draft including a NFL Draft Watch Party on April 23rd at their Youth Mentoring Center and ends with a BIG/Little flag football game on May 9th at Duke Williams Stadium.
