News Release: 6/19/2025

Attention Fellow Clive Residents:
It has recently come to my attention that several roofing companies have been going
door-to-door in Clive offering free roof inspections. I’ve received calls from 8 homeowners in the
past two months who were told they had storm damage and should file insurance claims. Upon
inspection, literally every single one of these roofs not only had no storm damage at all, but had
years of life left in them.
Unfortunately, there is a line of thinking present in some of the roofing industry, which goes
something like this: File everything and see what sticks (I’m not exaggerating, that is a real
business model for some people). This not only leaves you with a claim on your record for
absolutely no reason at all, but has resulted in a sometimes contentious relationship between
insurance carriers and roofing companies, making all of our jobs more difficult, and at the end of
the day, making the whole experience for you more difficult than it should be.
I use storm tracking software which allows me to pull addresses and see any and all reported
hail and wind storms in the last 10 years, and I also have years of experience meeting adjusters
at damaged properties and performing work to restore a home to pre-storm condition. I only say
that to say I am not new to this.
If you’ve been told your roof is damaged or “smoked” (a real example from one of these
perfectly-fine roofs), especially in Clive, please do your due diligence and get a second opinion.
I’ve seen this conduct most often in the following neighborhoods:
● Indian Hills Area
● Country Club Area
● Lakeview Dr. Area (West of Country Club, also north of Lakeview, technically Urbandale)
● SW of NE Alice’s Rd and Meredith

Talk to your neighbors and stay informed—this kind of practice ultimately hurts homeowners
more than it helps.
