The trail closure starts Tuesday, October 1, 2024
CLIVE, Iowa – Due to Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) construction on the Interstate 80/35 bridge over Walnut Creek, the popular Clive Greenbelt Trail will be closed at the interstate bridge intersection starting Tuesday, October 1, 2024. The closure will likely be in place through 2025 because of the extensive construction activity. Trail detour signs will be placed beginning Thursday, September 26, directing users to alternate routes in Clive and Urbandale. Barriers will be placed on the trail at the Campbell Recreation Area Bridge and the trail crossing at NW 114th Street. Please see the attached map of pedestrian and cyclist detour routes.
Detour routes on the Greenbelt Trail start at Campbell Recreation Area (12853 Woodlands Parkway, Clive) west of the interstate bridge and at NW 100th Street in Clive east of the bridge. During construction, the trail from the east will provide access to Clive City Hall, the Clive Library, and the Clive Aquatic Center.
“We understand this is an inconvenience on one of the most loved amenities in Clive, but when construction is completed, we will have a better trail with new connections to businesses and amenities in the area,” said Clive Mayor John Edwards. “There will be heavy equipment and material in the area during construction. We must prioritize safety for workers and trail users, so please stay out of construction areas and use alternate routes.”
When walking, cycling, and driving near detour routes, please watch carefully for pedestrians, bikes, and vehicles, especially at busy intersections.
Iowa DOT is adding lanes to the Interstate 80/35 bridge over Walnut Creek as part of the larger Interstate 80/35 - Hickman Road Interchange project. You can find more information and sign up for project updates at www.iowadot.gov/dsminterstates.
